CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Stars defeated Milwaukee 6-3 in front of 4,158 fans at the Cedar Park Center on Wednesday night. Center Ryan Garbutt registered a hat trick, as the Stars scored six unanswered goals in the final two periods. Three other Stars put up multi-point nights. Center Scott Glennie registered a goal and two assists, and defenseman Adam Pardy added three assists. Right wing Colton Sceviour scored a goal and an assist in the win. Texas goalie Andrew Raycroft (7-6-1) stopped 21 of 24 shots as the Stars improved to 11-8-2-1 at home. Admirals’ center Kyle Wilson registered a multi-point night with a goal and an assist. Milwaukee goalie Jeremy Smith (18-15-1) stopped 31 of 36 shots as the Admirals fell to 10-12-0-1 on the road.
The Admirals started the scoring at 5:12 of the first period with a rebound shot from center Kyle Wilson. His 12th goal of the season went unassisted for the early 1-0 lead. Milwaukee extended its lead, 2-0 as center Zack Stortini found the back of the net at 11:08. Center Jani Lajunen and defenseman Jonathan Blum each added an assist. The Admirals struck again with 6:33 remaining in the period as center Chris Mueller snuck a shot past Raycroft on the power play. Center Kyle Wilson and defenseman Victor Bartley helped set up the goal, closing out the first twenty minutes of play 3-0.
The Stars scored their first goal of the night as right wing Colton Sceviour rocketed a shot from the left circle past Smith at 6:04 of the second period. Defenseman Brad Lukowich and center Scott Glennie each provided an assist on Sceviour’s 11th goal of the year, cutting into the Admirals’ lead 3-1. Texas dug into Milwaukee’s lead again at 10:53 with a goal from center Ryan Garbutt. Scott Glennie and defenseman Adam Pardy each put up an assist on Garbutt’s 14th goal of the season and the 3-2 tally.
Texas tied the game 3-3 early in the third period with Ryan Garbutt’s second goal of the night at 0:59. Defensemen Brenden Dillon and Adam Pardy each received an assist on the game-tying play. The Stars pushed out in front 4-3, as left wing Matt Fraser scored on the breakaway at 11:41. Center Travis Morin and Adam Pardy each registered an assist on Fraser’s 22nd tally of the year. Texas strengthened its lead, 5-3 with 6:45 remaining as Scott Glennie beat Smith to the net. Colton Sceviour and defenseman Maxime Fortunus helped set up Glennie’s tenth goal of the season. Ryan Garbutt netted his third goal of the night with 1:47 left in the final frame. Garbutt went unassisted on the empty-net goal, lifting the Stars over the Admirals, 6-3.
The Stars start a three-game road trip on Friday, February 10th against the Rochester Americans at 6:35 p.m. Texas will then face the Hamilton Bulldogs on Sunday, February 12th at 3:00 p.m. and conclude with a visit to the Lake Erie Monsters on Wednesday, February 15th at 9:45 a.m. Texas will return home on Friday, February 17th for a 7:30 p.m. faceoff against the San Antonio Rampage.
