Game 4 victorys for Calgary, Windsor, and Drummondville

READING, PA – In the CHL playoffs, the Windsor Spitfires and Drummondville Voltigeurs are officially on the edge of winning their respective league titles, but the Kelowna Rockets will have to wait at least one more game before celebrating theirs.

In the WHL, the Kelowna Rockets remain one win away from a spot in the Memorial Cup as the Calgary Hitmen staved off elimination by winning Game 4 in the WHL finals, 6-2. Calgary went back to their dominating ways when they swept their opponents in rounds 1-3. It looked for a while though that Kelowna would win when they went up 2-1 in the second period on back-to-back goals by Mikael Backlund, who is oddly enough the Calgary Flames first round draft pick (24th overall) in 2007. The rest of the game belonged to the Hitmen however by scoring five unanswered goals to win Game 4. Brett Sonne, a third round pick of the St .Louis Blues in 2007, scored twice and added an assist to lead Calgary, who went 3 for 4 on the power play. Kelowna went 0 for 5. In the OHL, the Windsor Spitfires took one step closer to winning the OHL championship by winning Game 4 over the Brampton Battalion 4-1. Andrei Loktionov continues his strong play in the series with two goals in the game, his 10th and 11th of the playoffs. Scott Timmins also had a goal and an assist for the Spitfires. Windsor outshot Brampton 12-7 in the first period, but was outshot 23-15 in the second period, and 41-38 for the game. Cody Hodgson had the only goal for Brampton to get the Battalion to within 2-1 at the end of the second period, but the third period belonged to Loktionov when he scored both of his goals in the third period. In the QMJHL, the Drummondville Voltigeurs went back to their dominating ways by blasting the Shawinigan Cataractes 9-2 in Game 4 of their series and now take a 3-1 series lead. The Voltigeurs are now 15-1 in the playoffs. Contact the author at Brian.Jennings@prohockeynews.com
