FRISCO, Texas – Jordie Benn knows full well that his time in a Dallas Stars sweater may be short-lived. Still, the novelty of seeing his name listed on the team’s roster, along with his younger brother Jamie, represents a lifelong dream for the 24-year-old native of Victoria, British Columbia.
On Tuesday night, the two became the sixth pair of brothers to play together in Stars history; the first since Derian and Kevin Hatcher played together in the mid-1990’s. Although his first trip to “The Show” was marred by a 5-4 loss to the Detroit Red Wings, the 24-year-old defenseman and brother Jamie combined to assist on Dallas’s first goal of the night, scored by Loui Eriksson. Jamie Benn, now in his third season with the Stars, honored his brothers’ call-up by flying their parents to Detroit to see the game. It was the first time the two played together since the 2006-07 season, when the played Junior hockey with the Victoria Grizzlies. Jordie Benn had 16:31 of ice time on Tuesday night and impressed the Stars’ coaches enough to be sent back in when the team had an extra skater on the ice in the final minute of the contest. “That was a blast, a dream come true,” Jordie Benn told ESPN’s Richard Durret. ” Obviously, you want to win, but I got to play in the NHL with my brother, so that was awesome.”

Benn has participated in the Dallas Stars prospects camps over the past two summers and attended the team’s training camp in September. This season, his offensive productivity has increased with his contribution of 15 points (7 G, 8 A) and 14 PIM though 31 games prior to his call up.
