Forget the Eagles, Rush want the top spot

ODESSA, Texas – The Colorado Eagles are no longer the beasts of the Central Hockey League. That title seems to have been wrested from them by the Rapid City Rush. Head coach Joe Ferras has his Rush looking for the Northern Conference title and the CHL Governor’s Cup heading into the post season.

And for a bonus accolade, the Rush are just three points behind the Odessa Jackalopes in the overall standings and are now second to the Jacks in our Power Ranking poll this week.

The Jacks built a sizable lead early and have not really been threatened on or off the ice all year. In the Southern Conference, the Jacks lead the Allen Americans by six points and have a game in hand on Allen.

The interesting battles remain those for the final playoff spot in each conference. The Missouri Mavericks now have a small cushion over the Tulsa Oilers and the Corpus Christi IceRays have a four point lead over the Killer Bees of Rio Grande and hold two games in hand on the Bees. With precious few games left in the regular season, several teams need to hit a very hot streak to catch those above them. Something many teams in the CHL have been unable to do all season.
