MILTON KEYNES, UK – The UK Firefighters are ready to douse the flames of the British Army Blades in an upcoming Charity game between the two teams at Planet Ice Milton Keynes.
Never will the staff in Milton Keynes Ice rink feel safer than on Saturday the 9th of June as they are shielded not only from chip pan fires in the café but also potential terrorist attacks as two groups of the UK’s much loved service men don the skates and do battle in the aid of charity.
Two familiar faces to hockey fans in the city will be lining up for the Firefighters team in the shape of MK Lightning Coach Lewis Clifford and new star signing Nicky Chinn, who has just joined the club from EPL side Basingstoke Bison.
“I’m really excited to play this game in front of the MK fans and make as much money as possible” said Clifford, who confirmed that the Burned Children’s Club Charity will take 100% of the money raised.
“The Firefighters team is made up of a great bunch of lads from the length and breadth of the country and we all play for the love of the game and with a smile on our face”
“We have veteran guys, pro guys, semi pro players and Rec players and we are all going to be there with the aim of putting on a bit of a summer hockey show for the fans and making as much cash as possible for kids who have been injured as a result of fires”
The Burned Children’s Club does a massive amount of work to help burn survivors and their families come to terms with the consequences of these injuries using recreational activities.
It is a cause that many within the Fire Service can empathise with due to the nature of their work, and is what has motivated them to climb out of their hammocks in the station, slide down the pole and get kitted up to face the army boys.
“Obviously as players we hope the game will be a lot of fun” explained Clifford, who works for the Bedfordshire and Luton service.
“But the aim of the day is to raise as much money as possible to help children who have suffered burn injuries, and their families. All of us playing for the UK Firefighters know at first hand from our jobs just how devastating burn injuries can be”
It is not the first time the Firefighters team has raised money for charity as they recently won a charity game in aid of Help for Heroes by beating Blackpool Seagulls 9-6 up in the Northern town famous for its iconic tower, donkey rides and trams that occasionally kill off characters in the TV show Coronation Street.
Despite the star names of Nicky Chinn and Fife Flyers forward Andy Samuel in the line-up, it is not expected to be plain sailing for the men with hoses.
“We have all seen London’s Burning, Backdraft and Roxanne” said an unnamed Army player.
“But the Army can protect the country whilst also putting out fires when needed so that shows what we are all about”
It promises to be a great evening down in Milton Keynes on the 9th of June and tickets are only £4 on the door so please head down and show the guys your support and help this outstanding charity. Face off is at 4.30pm.
