CARDIFF, UK – “The Cardiff Devils have played with extreme grit and passion this season but if they are to make it to the Nottingham National Ice Centre for the finals, they will need to concentrate on winning Saturday’s game” says forward Ryan Finnerty. “This season there has been a mixture of both strength and weaknesses in the Elite League teams with no easy series. In my opinion, Cardiff deserves to make it Nottingham. I believe in our team and think we have a good chance at winning against Sheffield this weekend. The Devils have been relentless and even beat Nottingham at the NIC for the second leg of the challenge cup final. Our team has developed strongly and hold our own wherever we play”. said the Canadian forward. ” The ‘big blue tent’ is our house- we plan on shutting Sheffield down so that we come out on top. This is a big deal for Cardiff and I am proud to be representing their city and country.”
On the short time that Finnerty has been in Cardiff, first season in a 2 year deal, “So far, I love it here in Cardiff. I think that it is a unique city with a great sporting atmosphere. I like how the different sports teams here come to support one another. Pete Enckelman from Cardiff City Football Club is our number one fan” said Finnerty with a smile.
Formerly playing under coach Matsos for Sheffield, Finnerty was a key element to the successful Playoff Championship run in 2008/09 with the Steelers. His speed, skill and determination both on and off the ice bring the edge that the Devils need to win and Finnerty is excited to be up against his former team tomorrow at the Cardiff Bay Ice Arena at 7:00pm, followed up by the return match in Sheffield on Sunday evening.
