Final weekend important for several Eastern Conference clubs

GREENVILLE , S.C. – As the ECHL playoff picture begins to take form, there are still a few meaningful games in the Eastern Conference remaining before the end of the 2010-2011 regular season.   The South Division leader, the Greenville Road Warriors and the Atlantic Division leader, the Reading Royals, are in a battle for the top seed overall in the Conference. As of Thursday, March 31, 2011, Reading sits on top with ninety-one points, with Greenville second at ninety points and holds a one game advantage. If Reading wins their remaining two, the Royals will finish with ninety-five points. Greenville has three games remaining and can end the season with ninety-six points, if the team wins out.   In addition to the race for the top seed, there is still a chance for several teams to claim the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Elmira, Cincinnati, and Toledo all have a chance to make the post-season. The Cyclones lead those three teams with seventy-six points, with Elmira at seventy-four points, and Toledo coming into the final weekend with seventy points. Cincinnati has one game remaining and can finish with seventy-eight points. Toledo will need to win their remaining three games, including a tilt with Elmira on Friday, April 1, 2011. Both teams will need the Cyclones to lose their final game to have a chance.   Needless to say playoff fever is running wild already with important games left to play before the ECHL closes the door on another regular season.                Contact author at ryan.kouvolo@prohockeynews.com .
