TULSA, Okla.– It took 5 tries and they had to endure being scored on 30 times, but the Tulsa Oilers shook the losing monkey from their backs and notched the first hockey victory ever in their new home 3-1 against Wichita.
After losing twice to the Oklahoma City Blazers 3-2 on opening night and 5-1 in their home opener, and two crushing losses to Corpus Christi (12-3) and Bossier-Shreveport (9-1), the Oilers pulled together a win to help bolster their confidence and their image with their fans.
“We didn’t do anything different than we normally do,” Oilers coach Dan Hodge said, “We hustled, we didn’t chase the puck and we got a few lucky bounces. It was a make-or-break night for us and our guys took that to task.” Michel Beausoliel scored twice and Tulsa captain Jeff Christian scored an empty net goal while longtime Wichita Thunder forward Jason Duda placed the only marker for the opposing team in the game.
The Oilers move on to face Bossier-Shreveport again on the road Friday night, and return to the BOK Center on Saturday to face Amarillo
