Falcons ready for a four-peat

READING, PA – With the Atlantic Hockey conference schedule is about to get underway this weekend. Air Force has won the conference title the past three seasons.   Will they make it four straight trips to the NCAA Frozen Four tournament?   Is RIT finally positioned to overtake the Falcons? Hey, that’s why they play the games.   Today we take a brief look at the upcoming season in the AHC.
Air Force – The favorites to win the title this year.   Look for goaltender Andrew Volkening and forward Jacques Lamoureux is the ones to lead Air force to a first place finish again this season. RIT – Tyler Brenner was second in the team in points last season. Losing leading scorer Brennan Sarazin hurts however. They should make a run at the conference title however. Mercyhurst – Steve Cameron was second in the conference in scoring last season, but losing Matt Pierce hurts big time.
Bentley – Dustin Cloutier will have to take over the reins on offense with the departed Dain Prewitt moving on. Goaltender Kyle Rank will be the man in the pipes for the Falcons.
Canisius – Jason Weeks and Andrew Loewen should lead the team on offense. Weeks was tied for third overall last season.
American International – Michael Penny and Nielsson Arcibol are young and improving. Should help the offense, but overall they will struggle.
Connecticut – California native Jason Krispel led the team in scoring last season. He will need help if they are to move up in the standings.
Army – Owen Meyer will lead the offense while Jay Clark takes on the netminding duties.
Sacred Heart – Erik Boisvert will need help with two seniors graduating. The goaltender will need a prayer.
Holy Cross – Jordan Cyr should do well but like every other team in the conference defense will also be hard to come by.
Prediction – Air Force should repeat since RIT and Mercyhurst lost some offense. They will be in the running but the Falcons might be better than last season.
