Ex-Elite League defenceman signs for Steeldogs

SHEFFIELD, U.K.- It was announced on May.15. that ex-Elite League defenceman, Dmitri Rodin, has signed for the Sheffield Steeldogs.
 
The 37 year old defenceman played for the Hull Stringrays in the Elite League during the 2011/12 season where he played a total of 52 games, totalling 27 points with nine goals and 18 assists.
 
The Estonian international finalised his contract with the Steeldogs after returning from a successful World Championship campaign, leading his country to win the Gold. Rodin finished his five match, international campaign with a record of two goals and six assists.  
 
Rodin has previously played in such leagues as the IHL, the UHL and the Czech league.
 
Steeldogs owner, Shane Smith, said, “ It’s great to see more leadership coming to Sheffield in Dmitri Rodins.”
 
Andre Payette, Steeldogs player/coach, said “Dmitri’s leadership qualities, as reflected in his national team’s captaincy, will be massively important on and off the ice next year.”

“He was voted Best Defenceman for Hull Stingrays last season and together with his very physical game, he will bolster what was already the best defensive unit last year.”
 
Dmitri also expressed his excitement at the prospect of a successful 2012/13 season with the Sheffield Steeldogs. He said, “ I am really looking forward to joining the Steeldogs for the new season after speaking with Andre, and hearing the good team he was putting together for next year.”
 
“Hopefully we will win the championship and some silverware next season.
