DURHAM, UK – ENL North Dvision 1 side Whitley Warriors have signed Simon Hehir ahead of the 2012/13 campaign. Hehir has spent the majority of his career on Teesside playing for Billingham as a forward however he has switched back to the blue line in recent seasons and Warriors coach Garry Dowd intends to use Hehir as a defenceman.
Since the end of last season Whitley have lost the services of a number of expereinced d men including the likes of Rob Wilson, David Barrett, Kevin Bucas. Young blue liner Andrew Cook has also left Hillheads as he has moved away from the north east to go to university so the capture of Hehir boosts the resources Warriors have in defence.
Whitley have also confirmed that forwards DJ Good and Callum Pattinson will both once again where the maroon and gold next term. The re-signing of Good is great news for all Warriors fans as DJ is one of the top forwards currently plying their trade in the National League as his tally of 50 points last season demonstrates.
Power forward Pattinson will provide Whitley with plenty of toughness and physical presence up front. Callum picked up 9 points last season along with 219 penalty minutes which illustrates that the young forward can certainly take care of himself and his team mates out on the ice. Warriors coach Garry Dowd is keen for Pattinson to work on his temperament over the close season as he believes the youngster can make a real impact in the ENL if Whitley can get the best out of him.
