DURHA M, UK – Billingham Stars have announced that they have been able to sign former Slough Jets and Hull Thunder forward Michael Bowman ahead of the 2012/13 season. Bowman looks to be a superb addition for the Teesside based organisation as the player has a wealth of EPL and BNL experience.
Michael who is from the north appeared for the Durham Wasps and Sunderland Chiefs early in his career before icing for the Hull Thunder/Stingrays and the Newcastle Vipers in the old British National League. Bowman then moved into the EPL and appeared for the likes of the Slough Jets and Bracknell Bees before deciding to return to the north east.
Bowman is generally described as a defensive forward, he picked up 20 points for the Bees last term in a side that struggled towards the foot of the EPL so he will no doubt be hoping to enjoy a much more prolific season now that he has joined the Billingham Stars in ENL North Division 1.
Billingham’s local rivals the Whitley Warriors have also been busy as they have announced that Callum Watson, Josh Maddock and Martin Crammond will all be returning to the Bay for next season. The retention of Watson is great news for Warriors fans as the speedy winger was the 3rd highest scorer in the league last season and the youngster will be hoping he can help to fire Warriors to the title next campaign after missing out to the Billingham Stars in 2011/12.
The re-signing Josh Maddock is also encouraging news as it is understood that Warriors have lost a number of blue liners from last year’s squad so the teenager’s presence at the back will add depth to Whitley’s defence. Crammond brings both speed and guile to the Warriors forward units, Martin had the opportunity to ice on Whitley’s top forward unit with Karl Culley and Adam Reynolds in the season before last and the young winger will no doubt be hoping that he can force his way onto once of the clubs principal forward lines for the forthcoming campaign.
