Eight former CHL players on NHL opening-night rosters

GLENDALE, Ariz. – National Hockey League teams announced their opening day rosters on Saturday with eight former Central Hockey League players on those rosters.   Four NHL players participated in the CHL during the lockout, with Kyle Quincey (Detroit) playing with Denver, Alec Martinez (Los Angeles) playing with Allen and both David Schlemko (Phoenix) and Kyle Chipchura (Phoenix) playing in Arizona. Schlemko had previously played in the CHL during the 2007-08 season as a member of the Arizona Sundogs. He scored 39 points (10 G, 29 A) with Arizona, helping them win the Ray Miron President’s Cup Championship. Making the Dallas Stars opening day rosters are defenseman Jordie Benn and forward Ryan Garbutt. Benn played 45 games with the Allen Americans in the 2009-10 season, tallying 18 points (9 G, 9 A). Garbutt played with Corpus Christi during the same season, registering 50 points on 22 goals and 28 assists. In San Jose, forward Andrew Desjardins will be playing his third year with the Sharks. During the 2007-08 season, Desjardins scored 59 points (22 G, 37 A) with the Laredo Bucks.  The eighth player is forward Keith Aucoin (NY Islanders) who played with the Memphis RiverKings during the 2004-05 season.
