Egener: Biggest weekend of the year

COVENTRY, UK – Canadian defenceman Mike Egener has implored Genting Casino Coventry Blaze to strengthen their Rapid Solicitors Elite League play-off bid with a four-point weekend.

Blaze head into games against Dundee Stars on Saturday and Cardiff Devils on Sunday in sixth and holding a five-point cushion over ninth-placed Fife Flyers, who have two games in hand.175px-CoventryBlaze

Since Marc LeFebvre took over as coach in mid-February, Blaze have won four and lost four of their eight games but Egener believes they are making progress.

He said: “I like what Marc has done but ultimately it is down to the players, you can only do so much as a coach. But I like the direction we are going in.

“If you look at our record we are 4+4 but we have had three defeats to Belfast and also lost in Nottingham, which is a tough building to go and play. We have won the other games we needed to win.

“This is the biggest weekend of the year and four points will really put us in a good position to make the play-offs. We decide our own fate, we are in a good spot but that can change quickly.

“Our schedule is not easy but every game is tough. We just have to get the results we need and keep moving forward.”
