WORCHESTER, MA – The Boston College Eagles are heading back to the Frozen Four for the 22nd time in school history, their 9th in the last 13 seasons, after a wild 9-7 victory over the Yale Bulldogs and will move on to play at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich., on Thursday, April 8 against Miami (Ohio). Wisconsin and RIT will play in the other final four matchup. Cam Atkinson had the hat trick for BC and had a career-high four points. Atkinson’s line of Joe Whitney and Brian Gibbons registered 10 points (six goals and four assists) to lead the Eagles offense. BC never trailed in the game and had leads of 2-1 after one period and 6-4 after two periods. The Eagles poured it on by scoring three straight goals early in the third period including two goals in 23 seconds thanks to Jimmy Hayes to take a 9-4 lead.
Yale responded with the game’s final three goals to get the Bulldogs to within two goals but would get no closer the rest of the night. Atkinson’s offensive outburst helped but him a fifty point season (27 goals, 23 assists). The hat trick was his third hat trick in the last 10 games.
Both teams put up 39 shots in the game. Junior John Muse made 32 saves for the Eagles in the win, his 60th career win and his 15th in 16 postseason games.
Yale’s Mark Arcobello had a game-high six points (3 goals 3 assists).
Boston College head coach Jerry York is now 26-4 in the NCAA Tournament.
