Ducks clip Wings in game 1

ANAHEIM Calif- The Ducks and Red Wings were ready to renew there rivalry for another battle.

Both teams were coming into the playoffs on different paths as the Ducks had clinched early on and were cruising at the end of the season as they finished in second place in the Western Conference and first in the Pacific division.

Detroit had to fight to get in and keep their 22 year playoff streak alive as they finished off the season with four wins in a row to finish in seventh place just a point ahead of ninth place Columbus.Anaheim Ducks

Detroit is always a Cup favorite no matter where they finish.

It was a back and forth neutral zone game early on with both teams matching lines and playing cat and mouse.

Rookie Nick Bonino opened the scoring for the Ducks on the power play from Cam Fowler.The Ducks are 24 -3 when Bonino is in the line up.

Dan Cleary tied things up for Detroit on the power play from Jakub Kindl and Patrick Eaves.

Shots were 7-6 in  favor of Anaheim after twenty minutes.

The second period was more of the same as both teams were still feeling each other out with Jimmy Howard making some big stops for the Wings and Jonas Hiller making a couple of stops for the Ducks.Shots were 10-5 Ducks in the second.

Teemu Selanne ripped a shot over Howard’s shoulder on the power play togive the Ducks a 2-1 lead.

Hiller who wasn’t very busy came up big flashing his glove on Brendan Smith for a high lite reel save.

Detroit finished 1-4 on the power play.The Ducks scored twice on the power play which proved to be the difference.

Francois Beauchemin scored an empty netter to give the Ducks a 3-1 win.

Howard finished with 24 saves for Detroit.

Hiller made 22 saves for the Ducks.
