QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — After being involved in an emotional game last Tuesday against Saint John, Quebec saw their winning streak stopped at nine with Drummondville winning 6-2. Emil Sylvergard and Jerome Verrier led Drummondville offensively.
Quebec opened the scoring with 11:04 to go in the opening period. Coming from behind the Drummondville net Anthony Duclair took the first shot. With the puck loose near the net Frederick Roy only had to push the puck behind Drummondville goalie Dominic Graham for Quebec’s first goal.
Last in the QMJHL with a man advantage at 12.5 percent (16/128) Drommondville right winger Andre Bouvet-Morrissette had the best scoring chance but Louis Domingue made the save with Duclair in the box at 6:25.
Drummondville tied the game with less than 5:00 remaining in first period. Forgotten on Domingue left side, Lucas Venuto completed great play Jonathan Oligny beating Quebec netminder at 15:28.
A penalty to Drummondville center Alexandre Villemaire opened the door to one of best power play teams in the league. Getting a great pass from Roy (his second point in the period) Adam Erne’s shot went between Graham’s pads with 1:09 remaining in the first period.
A fight broke out in the beginning of second period following a check from behind by Quebec captain Mikael Tam, on Drummondville center Jerome Raymond. Coming to his teammate’s defense Andre Bouvet-Morrissette dropped his gloves.
Following the fight Quebec played the rest of the game without Achambeault who was ejected for a third-man in the fight. Tam got two for checking from behind and five for fighting. Bouvet-Morrissette got two, five and ten for the Voltigeurs.
Mario Duhamel’s team came back scoring the next two goals to take the lead for first time in the game. Simon Tardif-Richard on a two-on-one tied the game 2-2 with 12:00 to go in the middle frame.
A shot by Charles-David Bodoin deflected on Voltigeurs European center Emil Sylvergard 2:23 later put Drummondville up one.
Pressure the Drummondville zone following a penalty to Voltigeurs Nicholas Brouillard, with less than three minute remaining in the period, Drummondville netminder made a key save on Quebec forward Erne and defenseman Vincent Barnard, to preserve his team lead.
Drummondville took a 4-2 lead 4:19 into third period. After seeing his teammate Jean Philippe Mathieu missing an excellent chance on a breakaway to add to their lead, when Domingue made the save, Jerome Verrier surprised Domingue from behind the net seeing his shot hit the left post before going in for Voltigeurs’ fourth goal.
Sylvergard, the Voltigeurs European center, scored what became the backbreaking goal, his second goal of the game, and his sixth of the season, with 9:29 to play in the game. Verrier also scores his second of the game at 18:33 in third period sealing Voltigeurs victory stopping Quebec winning streak at nine.
Quebec’s next game will be Sunday facing their arch-rival Chicoutimi in Sagueneens territory.
