QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — After seeing Quebec take a 3-0 lead, the Drummondville Voltigeurs came from behind with four answered goals, the last one in overtime, to win 4- 3 in front of what was the best crowd in Marcel Dionne Center, 3323 happy fans.
The first star of the game for Drummondville Alexandre Contois led the Voltigeurs offense with two goals, first two in the game for the home team. Captain Marc-Olivier Vachon (1g-1a) and Jonathan Brunelle with three assists also played key role in the Drummondville victory.
Voltigeurs defenseman Andrew Randazzo completed the great come from behind effort with a shot from the slot that hit the post at the right of Quebec goaltender Louis Domingue before going in for the game winning goal at 1:50 of overtime.
After a scoreless first period where goaltenders had to make key saves, Quebec broke the ice scoring three goals.
With the best power play in the league Quebec didn’t miss its first opportunity they. With Francis Lambert-Lemay in the box for tripping 2:43 into the second period, Remparts defenseman Vincent Barnard’s wrist shot from the blue line beat Guillaume Nadeau 3:58 into the middle frame.
Rookie forward Vincent Montreuil made it 2-0 beating Drummondville netminder with a one-timer following a great pass from defenseman Martin Lefebvre at 12:02.
Consecutive penalties to Voltigeurs defenseman Jonathan Oligny (14:49) and left winger Mathieu Guertin gave Quebec another great opportunity to send their power play unit for a two-man-advantage for 51 seconds.
Quebec defenseman Barnard (Vincent) scored his second of the night with another wrist shot at 16:43.
Drummondville replied with two goals of their own, both goals coming from the stick of center Alexandre Contois. The Voltigeurs’ first goal came with 1:01 remaining in the period. Contois beat Domingue between the pads after deflecting a shot from Marc-Olivier Brouillard from the blue line.
Drummondville’s second goal came with only 34.5 seconds remaining in the second stanza. The Voltigeurs center beat Quebec goaltender between the pads for second time in as many tries.
Quebec scored two of their three goals on four power play opportunities dominating 15- 9 in shots on goal in the second period. Quebec dominated 27-21 in shots after forty minutes.
Drummondville captain Marc-Olivier Vachon tied the game three all with his 15th of the season with a one-timer at 3:15 of the third period.
Teams traded scoring chances in the third period without being able to find way to beat either goaltender. Shots on goal ended 33-33 after the three regulation periods.
Andrew Randazzo put an end to the game with the overtime goal at 1:50.
Quebec will return to action this Thursday at home hosting the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.
