QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Back home after losing last Wednesday against Quebec, Drummondville ended Quebec’s winning streak at 8 with a 3-1 victory.
Leading 2-1 after two periods of play, Andre Bouvet-Morrissette’s empty net goal with 17.8 seconds remaining sealed the Voltigeurs win over the Remparts and win the season series 3 games to 1.
Unable to get a goal with a man advantage (0-7), Patrick Roy’s team saw their opponent get the game winning goal playing on power play ending 1-in-6 on the power play. The penalty taken by Kurt Etchegary for hooking at 13:35 of second period proved to be costly because it led to Drummondville’s game winning goal scored by Marc-Olivier Brouillard.
Not completely satisfied after his team’s loss against Quebec last Wednesday night in Quebec (7-3), Drummondville head coach Mario Duhamel was certainly be happier after his team returned to their locker room leading 1-0 after one period at home at le centre Marcel Dionne.
Playing much better in the first period the Voltigeurs dominated 11- 4 in shots on goal forcing Quebec goaltender Francois Brassard to be efficient blocking 9 of 10 shots against him with 8 shots considered great scoring opportunities.
Drummondville was perfect in shorthanded situations killing both Quebec power plays, Drummondville opened the scoring just as their second penalty against them ended.
Back from injury, Olivier Archambault, on a 2-on-0 breakaway, got a great pass from Olivier Caouette, and the left winger beat Quebec netminder high on Brassard left side, with a backhanded shot at 12:32.
Facing Quebec for second time in as many games Dominic Graham blocked all 4 shots with 2 being considered Remparts great scoring opportunities.
As the second period progressed, Quebec put more pressure on Drummondville defensemen giving other good scoring chances. But a penalty to Quebec center Kurt Etchegary open the door to the home team.
The penalty was only 26 seconds old, when Marc-Olivier Brouillard adds to Drummondville lead pushing the rebound behind Remparts goalie at 14:00.
Kept out of the scoring sheet with almost two-third of the game played Quebec first line get Remparts on board with 31st of the year by Anthony Duclair who got a points in a 12 consecutive games at 16:28 of middle frame.
Quebec continued to apply pressure in the offensive zone trying to get the equalizer but as he did in first two periods the Voltigeurs netminder answered present making key saves notably against Alexandre Contois, Dulair, Grigorenko and Roy with 4:33 remaining to the game.
Quebec will play their next game visiting Gatineau in Robert Guertin Arena on Sunday.
