HULL, UK – Birthday boy Matty Davies netted the game-winning goal as Rapid Solicitors Hull Stingrays produced a fantastic fightback to beat Cardiff Devils 5-3 at Hull Arena in the Elite League.
Stingrays found themselves three goals down inside nine minutes but responded in style to take the points with a goal from Davies, 24 today, proving the clincher while Great Britain netminder Ben Bowns made 40 saves.
Mac Faulkner converted a penalty shot after just 55 seconds before Markus Rama doubled Devils’ lead at 5.32.
Matt Myers (8.11) made it 3-0 but Jereme Tendler got Stingrays on the board with a powerplay marker at 17.40 – his 37th goal of the season – and Guillaume Doucet’s 43rd strike of the season at 38.39 made it a one-goal game.
Two goals inside 69 seconds from Omar Pacha (50.01) and Davies (51.10 powerplay) fired Stingrays into the lead for the first time and Doucet’s second of the night at 57.05 ensured the two points.
Stingrays will now attempt to make it a four-point weekend when they travel to Fife Flyers tomorrow for a vital Gardiner Conference clash.
