QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — With their win streak was stopped at nine in Drummondville against the Voltigeurs, Quebec entered Chicoutimi with one idea in mind, coming out victorious against their arch-rival. Quebec returned home with 3-1 win over Chicoutimi.
Totally dominated in the opening period by the Sagueneens, the Quebec goaltender was spectacular in closing the door on the home team and stopping all 14 Chicoutimi shots. Louis Domingue ended the game making 34 saves on Sagueneens 35 shots on goal.
Christopher Gibson ended the game making 19 saves on 21 Quebec shots before being pulled by Chicoutimi head coach Marc-Etienne Hubert with less than 1:30 remaining in the game.
Quebec opened the scoring with help of Chicoutimi center Steve Lebel who wanted to clear the goaltender crease. Shooting the puck near Chicoutimi goalie half circle, Quebec defenseman Martin Levebvre saw the Sagueneens center poor clearing attempt end with him pushing the puck behind his own netminder Christopher Gibson with 18:35 to go, in the opening period giving Quebec 1-0.
Domingue frustrated the home team four times in the first period. Lukas Sedlak saw the Quebec netminder made two great saves with his right pads preventing Chicoutimi to tie the game.
Inspired by the possibility of being invited to the Canadian junior team that will take part to the 2011 World Junior Championship, Domingue gave another demonstration of his abilities stopping Chicoutimi right winger Yoan Pinette on a two-on-one breakaway. Guillaume Asselin has been another eyewitness of the Phoenix Coyotes prospect performances making another key save with his left pad.
Chicoutimi tied the score with a man advantage 9:18 into second periods. Taking first shot on goal, the Sagueneens left winger, Etienne Brodeur, saw his teammates Sedlak deflecting the shot behind Quebec goaltender. Quebec right winger Mathieu Lavallee was in the box for roughing.
Quebec regained the lead with a man advantage with Chicoutimi center Alexandre Lavoie in the penalty box, Anthony Duclair left the puck over Gibson at 14:52. Mikael Tam and Alexandre Contois got the helpers.
Frederick Roy scored Quebec’s insurance goal in an empty net with 3.9 seconds remaining.
