READING, Pa – The Detroit Red Wings have become one of the most consistent franchises in the NHL. Always a cup contender, the Red Wings have had a long storied history, most notibly by having one of the greatest hockey players of all time, Gordie Howe, as a part of that history. In our continuing series of photo gallery’s we take a look back at 2012 and the game between the Red Wings and the Philadelphia Flyers. The orange and black won the game 3-2 but the night was memorable for more than one reason. A recent inductee into the NHL Hall of Fame was Mark Howe, one of Gordie’s sons, was honored before the game by having his number 2 retired by the franchise and his banner was raised to the rafters. Howe holds the Flyers record for points by a defenseman and he played for the Flyers for 10 years. He is currently the director of pro scouting for the Red Wings. All photos were taken by our lead photographer Lewis Bleiman . Enjoy.
