DANBURY, Conn – The New Jersey Outlaws visited the Whalers of Danbury
on Thursday in Federal Hockey League action. The outlaws were looking to extend their winning streak to 15 games. Thursday night saw the Whalers come to the ice with a short bench.Earlier this week, Danbury waived three players including Lucas Schott and Joe Dabkowski (both were picked up by Brooklyn) and Todd Chinova (signed by Cape Cod). The Whalers replaced one by signing James Sanford.
For the game, Greg Holt had a stellar night for the Whalers as he collected three assists in Danbury’s 3-2 regulation win over the Outlaws.
The Whalers used a two-goal first period to set the tone for the game and keep the Outlaws on their heels most of the game.
Kevin Cooper picked up a short-handed tally in the second for New Jersey and John Golfredo tied the match at two early in the third but newcomer Sanford converted passes from Holt and Kelly Miller midway through the final period for the game winner.,
Despite the shortened bench the Whalers outhustled New Jersey for 60 minutes and earned the win. By the end of the game, the Whalers skated only 11 players as Brett Aimone saw no third-period action for Danbury.
New Jersey looks to start a new winning streak Friday night as the two teams hook up again.
