FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Stars will get a closer look at over 35 of its top prospects at their annual development camp, which opens on Friday at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter in McKinney, Texas. The camp’s daily schedule includes on-and off-ice workouts as well as team-building activities on the Fourth of July. The camp will conclude with a skills event on Thursday morning, July 7th. Serving as an orientation to the Stars organization, five of Dallas’ six selections from the 2011 NHL Entry Draft are scheduled to attend, including defensemen Jamie Oleksiak, Troy Vance and Jyrki Jokipakka, right wing Brett Ritchie and center Emil Molin. Goaltender Jack Campbell, the first goaltender selected at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft (11th overall) and right wing Scott Glennie (8th overall at 2009 NHL Entry Draft) will also be participating in the week-long camp. Campbell, 19, played his first season in the Ontario Hockey League in 2010-11 with the Windsor Spitfires, posting a 24-14-4 record with a 3.80 goals against average and .884 save percentage. In the post-season, he helped Windsor make it to the Western Conference finals, going 9-9 with a 3.74 goals against average, a .887 save percentage and two shutouts.
In four seasons with the Wheat Kings, Glennie has registered 308 points (121 G, 187 A) and 183 Penalty minutes in 252 games played. During post-season play, he added 39 points (10 G, 29 A) and 38 PIM in 39 games played. Glennie will join the Texas Stars full time next season as he continues his development. Other notable draft picks attending the camp will be Alex Chiasson (2009, 2nd round), Tyler Beskorowany (2008, 2nd round), Patrik Nemeth (2010, 2nd round), Scott Winkler (2008, 3rd round), Reilly Smith (2009, 3rd round), Alexander Guptill (2010, 3rd round), Alex Theriau (2010, 4th round), Tomas Vincour (2009, 5th round), John Klingberg (2010, 5th round) and Mike Bergin (2008, 7th round). Among the other invitees is right wing Julian Ramirez Garibaldi, who played this past season with the University of Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico. Formerly a top in-line hockey player, Garibaldi, 22, is believed to be the first Mexican national to be invited to an NHL prospect camp. Also attending is right wing Justin Jones, the brother of top 2013 NHL prospect Seth Jones. Both are sons of former Dallas Mavericks player and current New Jersey Nets Assistant Coach Popeye Jones. Jones plays locally with the Texas Tornado of the North American Hockey League. Pro Hockey News will provide inside coverage of the development camp over the next week.
