COVENTRY, UK – Genting Casino Coventry Blaze registered their biggest win of the season as they overwhelmed Edinburgh Capitals 8-2 at the Skydome.
Cale Tanaka got the go-ahead goal at 7.52 with a short-handed marker before further strikes from Henrich (15.14) and Kelsey Wilson (18.48).
Henrich’s second of the night, another short-handed goal, 46 seconds into the second period and a Ginand effort at 21.56 quickly made it 5-0 and prompted a Capitals time-out.
Ginand’s second – and 40th of the season – extended Blaze’s lead at 25.38 before Capitals hit back with two goals from Marcis Zembergs (26.42 & 33.14 powerplay).
Michael Henrich added a seventh at 49.55 and a powerplay strike from Steven Chalmers (59.40) rounded off the scoring, with back-up netminder Adam Goss seeing action for the final three minutes.
Coach Matt Soderstrom said: “They were low on numbers but we still had to go out there and complete the job.
“I was happy with the performance, it was nice to score a few goals and spread them out a bit. It was comfortable for us.
“We have Nottingham tomorrow and it will be a completely different game. They are a good team and we are going to have to be ready.”
Blaze take on Nottingham Panthers at the Skydome in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League Erhardt Conference on Sunday February 2/
