Climie, Wolves shutout Peoria, 3-0 Allen's return to Rivermen falls flat in third period

PEORIA, ILL – Jake Allen spent the last two weeks as an NHL phenom with the St. Louis Blues, but his return to the AHL and the Peoria Rivermen was a huge flop.

Allen, a third-year prospect with a 3-1-0 record and a 2.62 GAA during his NHL call-up, looked fantastic through two periods but gave up three goals on five shots in the first five-and-a-half minutes of the third period against the Chicago Wolves.

The Rivermen ended up falling 3-0 to the visitors in front of 6831 fans Saturday night at Carver Arena in Peoria..

Each period was a differenrivermen logot story.

In the opening frame, Chicago dominated with aggressive forecheck while the second had Peoria swarming Chicago goalie Matt Climie with 19 shots.

Both Allen and Climie made terrific saves and kept their team in the game.

The third period, however, started badly and went downhill for the Rivermen.

Less than two minutes into the period, the Rivermen were unable to gain control of the puck behind their net. Darren Haydar brought the puck out left while Allen was craning around to the right and scored an easy goal on the out-of-position goaltender.

Just over a minute later, Andrew Ebbett caught Allen out of the net too far and buried a Haydar rebound for a quick 2-0 lead.

Two-and-a-half minutes later, at 5:28, Haydar led a breakaway into the attacking zone. His pass to Devin DiDiomete was perfect and Allen was again out of position, unable to seal the post and DiDiomete lit the lamp for what would be the final score.

Climie was stellar, stopping all 30 Peoria shots for his third shutout of the season. Allen took his 14th loss of the year, stopping 31 of 34 shots.

Neither team scored on a pair of power plays.
