Clan and Calder Part Company

GLASGOW, UK – Elite League expansion team have parted company with Player-Coach Adam Calder by mutual consent with immediate effect. Whilst elsewhere in the Elite League, Jason Stone leaves Cardiff Devils for Swindon Wildcats All-time Elite League leading points scorer Adam Calder has left his position as Player-Coach with Braehead Clan without a puck being dropped or a single signing being made. The news leaves Braehead with no coach and no players as teams around them begin to get to the half way point in signing their 2010-11 rosters. Calder, who this season Captained Coventry Blaze to the Elite League championship, has spent 6 seasons in the Elite League, all with the Midlands based club forming a renowned partnership with American Centre Dan Carlson. No stranger to success, the Portage-la-Prairie, Manitoba native also won the NCAA championship as part of the University of North Dakota team, in a career that also saw stops with Sweden’s Vaxjo Lakers, South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL, Witchita Thunder in the CHL and Rochester Americans, Milwaukee Admirals and Norfolk Admirals in the AHL. Speculation is rife as to who will secure the sniper’s signature for the coming season with newspaper reports suggesting Sheffield Steelers are favourites whilst Calder could also look to Player-Coach positions open at Dundee Stars or Edinburgh Capitals or a 7th season with Coventry Blaze. So too, the field is open for the Braehead Clan coaching role, with a number of names in the frame including former Basingstoke Bison Head Coach Doug Sheppard, former Sheffield Steelers Head Coach Paul Heavey and Elite League legend Neal Martin all connected with the role. Elsewhere in the Elite League, Jason Stone has left Cardiff Devils after nearly 20 years of service to his hometown club. A true legend in the Red and Black, blueliner Stone appeared in 37 games scoring 1+3 for a return of 4 points last season. The 37-year old will ply his trade with the Swindon Wildcats in the EPL, bringing some much needed experience to the Wildcats blueline following the departure of Jan Kraijeck from the club.
