ODESSA, Texas – This week has seen a number of shifts in the balance of power in the CHL. The MudBugs are now on top in the latest poll and Laredo has reclaimed the top spot in their division (though only by virtue of having played more games than second place Rio Grande).
Colorado and Rio Grande are knocking on the top spot’s door but until the MudBugs falter they have firm control on the CHL Power Ranking for this week.
Travis Clayton recently played in his 705th game in the CHL, thus surpassing Joe Burton for most games played in the league. Congratulations to Travis on the feat.
While the better teams are defending home ice and playing well on the road the New Mexico Scorpions seem to be enigma this season. In the early going the Scorpions are playing 0.500 hockey but are 4-2-0 on the road including taking two of three on a recent road trip.
Defenses have still not caught up with the offenses yet and so the number of goals being scored in each contest remains high.
Check in next week for the latest shifts in the CHL’s Power Ranking.
