CHICAGO – Charlotte’s four-game winning run against the Midwest Division came to an end in Chicago. The Wolves raced into a 2-0 lead during the first period with Mark Mancari the Chicago player who did the damage.
Saturday night the Checkers came back strong in the third period to win the game over Milwaukee Admirals. Although Charlotte really pressed to get back into the match, it was not to be. The Wolves went further ahead when Tim Miller added number three; he would score again in the third period.
Trailing 3-0 in the third Charlotte hit back midway through the period with goals from Zac Dalpe and Nicolas Blanchard, his fifth goal of the season. The assist on Blanchard’s goal came from rookie Sean Dolan, who signed a professional tryout contract. Dolan, a center, has been playing for the South Carolina Stingrays in the SPHL.
Miller scored his second goal and Chicago’s fourth halfway through the third period. Chicago had two, two-on-one breaks. The first came to nothing while the second break saw Mark Mancari feed Miller for the goal. With just under two minutes to go in regulation Mark Murphy, in the Charlotte goal, was pulled giving the Wolves leading scorer of the season, Darren Hayder, an empty-net goal.
Chicago goalie Eddie Lack made 32 saves while Mark Murphy stopped 21 shots for the Checkers. This was the Wolves second win against Charlotte, the eight game series is now tied at two each.
Charlotte returns home to play Hershey Bears on January 11 and 12, face off 7pm. Then the Grand Rapid Griffins are in town January 15 and 17, face off at 3pm and 7pm respectively.
