CEDAR PARK, Texas – After falling behind on a Taylor Vause goal after 4.17 the Checkers stormed back in the second period with goals from Riley Nash and Brett Sutter. With all the injuries and problems over the last few games it was good to see Charlotte back to their old self.
Texas lead 1-0 going in to the second period, but Charlotte soon reeled them in when Nash scored in 4.07. Then at the 12.50 minutes marker Brett Sutter put the Checkers ahead, with Chris Terry and Matt Beca assisting.
The third period saw Charlotte put the game completely out of reach of Texas when Zach Boychuk found the net with assists from Justin Kreugar and Rasmus Rissenen. Boychuk made his return to Charlotte after having a total of 13 games with Pittsburg, Nashville and the Hurricanes. He is among the top five forwards for Charlotte and has been sorely missed over the past few weeks.
Charlotte were not finished Nash scoring again in 14.44 of the period. With just over a minute to go in regulation Vause scored his second of the evening.
Texas still leads the Western Conference with 85 points from 65 games, Grand Rapids holds down second place with 80 points from 65games. Charlotte and the Toronto Marlies are tied for third spot with 79 points. Charlotte has played 65 games while Toronto has only played 62. With 11 games remaining, seven at home and three on the road Charlotte face their old advisory Norfolk Admirals at the Time Warner Cable Arena on March 25.
On Sunday April 7 the Checkers are Saluting Heroes, with proceeds going to injured or fallen public service workers.
