Checkers take must-win game from Peoria

CHARLOTTE, NC – This was a game Charlotte had to win to keep their play-off hopes alive. It began with Justin Peters in the Checkers goal, who had 31 saves on the night, the busier of the goalies. Peoria outshot Charlotte 10-2 in the first ten minutes, then Charlotte came back strongly with Bobby Sanguinetti getting his tenth goal of the season from a pass by Chris Terry.

In the second period Peoria appeared deflated after their fast start, the Checkers took advantage through a Drayson Bowman goal. Peoria did hit back with Adam Cracknell scoring their only goal of the evening. Charlotte went further ahead with Justin Krueger and Matthew Pistilli adding to Charlottes tally.

The third period and Charlotte kept attacking, even though they were leading 4-1. Chris Terry and Brett Sutter both scored to give the Checkers a comfortable win. The team now travels to Rockford for Saturday’s game against the Ice Hogs.

This was Charlotte’s fourth consecutive win on the road, they have now moved from 11th place in the Western Division to ninth. On Sunday Charlotte face Milwaukee who they are tied with on points at the moment.
