Checkers take brace of games

It took a game winning goal from Matthew Pistilli to break the deadlock and give the Checkers their first win of the season before 7,561 fans at Time Warner Cable Arena.
 
Goals from Nicolas Blanchard and Jerome Samson in the first period and Boychuk in the second set the tone, but then coming to the third period the Checkers took their foot off the pedal. The Rivermen took full advantage. Head coach Jeff Daniels said that he was disappointed at losing a three goal lead, but very happy with the win.
 
It had been another busy week for the Checkers with Michael Kahn owner of the club, CEO and Governor, becoming a partner in the ownership of the Carolina Hurricanes.   It was also the wrap up for the Husqvarna 15 days of giving. Between the two organizations they had logged over 400 hours of volunteer work and raised $5,000 in monetary and in-kind donations.
 
On Sunday afternoon there was a re-match between Checkers and the Peoria Rivermen, this time Charlotte did not make any mistakes coming out 3-1 winners, which leaves Peoria 0-4 for the season. Riley Nash gave the Checkers the lead early in the second period. Peoria equalized through Brett Sterling before Jon Matsumoto got the go-ahead goal for Charlotte. Drayson Bowman also added a power-play goal.

Matsumomo, who has had three goals and six assists for nine points, so far this season, received some kind comments from Coach Daniels. Saying “he is working hard at both ends of the rink, I like his overall game.”
 
Breaking News-The Carolina Hurricanes recall Checkers captain Brett Sutter on an emergency basis. Zac Dalpe the Hurricanes forward suffered a lower body injury in Friday night’s game in Buffalo, and is week to week.
 
Charlotte hosts the Houston Aeros on October 21/22, then on Sunday October 23 the home stand is concluded with a visit from the Norfolk Admirals.
