MILWAUKEE, Wisc – Charlotte opened the scoring in 2. 31 of the first period when Sean Dolan pounced on a rebound from a Bobby Sanguinni shot. Then came a difficult time for Charlotte’s special team as Rasmus Rissanen received a four minute penalty for high-sticking. The Checkers defended well to keep the score at 1-0.
It was almost the end of the second period before Milwaukee’s Kyle Wilson tied the game at 1-1. Zach Boychuk had two excellent opportunities during the second period which came to nothing. Chances for either team were few and far between.
Then with only 13 seconds left in overtime when Zac Dalpe score the winning goal from a pass from Jerome Sanson. The move had been set up by defenseman Justin Kreuger, who had held the puck on the blue line before sending an excellent pass to Sanson.
Making his sixth consecutive start, John Muse in the Charlotte goal made 25 saves. Late in the third period Muse made several important saves to keep Milwaukee at bay. The Admirals outshot Charlotte 26 to 22 but with Muse in such good form the efforts came to nothing.
The win gives Charlotte a six point lead in the Midwest Division. This was the eighth win in ten games for the North Carolina team; they were assisted by rival Rockford Ice Hogs, who beat Chicago Wolves 2-1.
In games against Milwaukee the Checkers are 4-1-0 on the season with three games still to be played. In the Midwest Division they are 12-4-1.
Charlotte stays on the road with a visit to Peoria tonight, they then return home to face Norfolk on Sunday at the Time Warner Cable Arena, face-off 6pm.
