Checkers notebook – Goalie Dan Ellis signs PTO with Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC – Dan Ellis has kept goal for Dallas, Nashville, Tampa Bay and Anaheim over the last six NHL seasons. A veteran of 165 NHL games, 32 year old Dan Ellis became an unrestricted free agent this summer. Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan he holds a record of 72-57-27 with a 2.68 goals-against average, .911 save percentage and 12 shutouts in the NHL.
 
Dallas selected him in the second round (60th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft; Ellis played 44 games for Nashville in 2007/8, finishing the season with a league-leading .924 save percentage.
 
Ellis last played in the AHL in the 2007 play-offs, is 61-67-3 in 140 career AHL games with Utah, Hamilton and Iowa. He compiled 2.80 goals-against average and .912 save percentage with nine shutouts.
 
Ellis will join the Checkers pre-season training camp this Saturday September 29.
