SAN ANTONIO, Texas – It took San Antonio just over three minutes to get on the board when Tyson Strachen scored for the Rampage after a face-off win by the home team. Then 3.30 minutes later Greg Rallo added a second goal for San Antonio, this was after Justin Peters made a save, Rallo got the rebound.
Scott Simmons, gave the Rampage a 3-0 lead just before the end of the first period. Bracken Kearns scored number 4 from a power play for San Antonio, his ninth of the season, during the second period. The Rampage has not done well with power play goals this season, scoring just 11.
Jacob Markstrom, in the Rampage goal lost the shut-out when Jared Staal scored for Charlotte on a power play with 38 seconds left in the third. Markstrom made 44 saves including power play efforts from Zach Boychuk and Brett Sutter that were outstanding.
Justin Peters made 19 saves from 23 shots, he was playing his third consecutive game since Mike Murphy had recently been called to the Carolina Hurricanes. Bobby Sanguinetti, defenseman, returned for Charlotte after being out 10 games with a broken foot. He had the assist with Staals lone goal for the Checkers.
The Carolina Hurricanes have recalled Drayson Bowman from Charlotte and defenseman Chris Murray has been recalled from ECHL Florida Everblades.
The Checkers now have a four-game home stand starting with the Chicago Wolves on December 15 and 16, they then face the Oklahoma Barons December 18 and 20. The team has a Christmas break from December 21 until December 30 when they return to the road to visit the Rockford Ice Hogs and Chicago Wolves.
