CHARLOTTE, NC – After a good opening spell when the Checkers outshot Milwaukee 13 to 6, Charlotte faded away, leaving the Admirals an easy victory. It was especially disappointing after the Checkers showing at the weekend, gaining back to back wins on the road.
Milwaukee withstood the initial pressure by Charlotte coming back at the end of the first period to test Murphy in the Checkers goal. The teams left the ice tied at 0-0 that was soon to change in the second period.
A few minutes after the restart Milwaukee had scored twice through Taylor Beck and Kyle Wilson. Beck’s goal came on a power play when he picked up a rebound to score. Goal number two came after Murphy made a good save from Ryan Thang, unfortunately the puck bounced off the chest of Admiral’s Kyle Wilson into the net.
Wilson added to his nights total with a further goal late in the period. In the third period Ryan Flynn scored Milwaukee’s fourth goal after having three attempts to put the puck in the net before eventually scoring. Murphy made 34 saves for Charlotte, his opposite number Jeremy Smith made 31.
At the beginning of the evening Charlotte were placed fifth in the Western Division having moved up from eighth following the successful weekend. The loss has probably not affected Charlotte’s position for the moment however Milwaukee has now closed the gap with Charlotte to three points.
With seven games remaining in the regular season, Charlotte faces Milwaukee again on Thursday April 5 at 7pm at Time Warner Cable Arena.
