Checkers crush Milwaukee with 5 power-play goals

MILWAUKEE, Wisc – Charlotte took advantage of the extra man on five occasions at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee. Riley Nash set the ball rolling in the third minute giving the Checkers a 1-0 lead. It wasn’t until the second period that the floodgates opened and Charlotte added four more goals three of them on a power play. Captain Brett Sutter aided the cause with four assists.

The team tied a franchise record for most points in a single game. They also set a team record with the five power play goals. Charlotte is now 17-6-4Charlotte Checkers 2010 Primary on the road this season this being their third straight win.

Chris Terry scored number two 1.35 in to the second period. Zac Dalpe put away number three after 5.32 and then Riley Nash scored his second of the night in the 12th minute. Charlotte was 4-0 ahead all on power play situations. Before the second period ended Jeremy Welsh made the score 5-0.

The third period was only 2.12 old when another power play gave Chris Terry the opportunity to score his second and the team’s sixth goal of the evening. Thirty seconds later Jeremy Welsh became the third Checker player to score two goals in the game.

Down 7-0 Milwaukee was shell shocked, they came back when Henderson scored in 11.16 and then Latta got a second. Charlotte was not finished as Justin Shugg found the net a few moments before the final buzzer. The final score 8-2 Charlotte with five of the goals scored on eight power play attempts.

You would have thought John Muse in the Charlotte goal would have had a peaceful night with an 8-2 victory but he had 32 shots to deal with where the Admirals goalie J. Smith had 26. Muse is now 3-0-0 on the season.

Charlotte travel to Grand Rapids for a Sunday afternoon face-off.
