CHICAGO – After opening December with five losses out of six the Checkers ended the month, with an excellent win over the Chicago Wolves, on the road. Chicago also had a decent December with seven wins in the last nine games, but tonight Charlotte was buzzing.
Nicolas Blanchard put Charlotte ahead with just over five minutes of the first period played, a shot from Brett Bellemore was deflected into the Wolves net.
The Checkers maintained the lead into the second period when Jerome Samson scored; this was his 14 goal of the season and the fourth in the last five games. At the end of the period Zach Boychuk slotted home number three.
Goalie Matt Murphy kept the Checkers in the game with several important saves however he was eventually beaten by the Wolves Anton Rodin. Matt Climie, playing his first game of the season made 17 saves on 20 shots in the Chicago goal.
Brett Sutter added an empty net goals almost on the final buzzer, to give the Checkers a 4-1 win and a wonderful end to 2011. The team is staying in Chicago to celebrate the New Year, returning home to face the San Antonio Rampage on Tuesday January 3
