Checkers allow Abbotsford five goals

CHARLOTTE, NC – Despite leading by two goals in the second period, Charlotte then allowed Abbotsford Heat to score five unanswered goals in response. Bobby Sanguinetti and Sean Dolan put the Checkers ahead, then with just under a minute to go before the buzzer Abbotsford’s Clay Wilson hit a shot that seemed to ricochet off a defender before beating Mike Murphy in the Checkers goal.

In the first three minutes of the third period Abbotsford’s, Robby Dee and Carter Bancks put the Heat back in the game.   Deflections seemed the order of the night, only Bancks shot beat Murphy in the Checker’s goal cleanly. Abbotsford’s fourth goal was another shot that took a deflection off someone, James Martin had fired the shot the next Murphy knew the puck had been diverted into the net.

Murphy, who had made 23 saves on 27 shots was pulled giving Heats, Dustin Sylvester an open net for number five. Joni Orto in Abbotsford goal made several excellent saves, one from Riley Nash and another from Pistilli that were outstanding, on the night he made 35 saves.

Charlotte travel to Norfolk on Monday to face the Admirals Tuesday night, January 24.
