Charlotte point streak ends with loss to Stars, 3-1

CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars seem to have Charlottes number this season with a 3-1 win on Saturday night. The Checkers record against the Stars this season is 0-1-2 this loss saw the end of their point’s streak. It also saw their lead in the AHL Southern Division drop to two points.

Charlotte got on the board first when Zac Delphi scored from a pass from Riley Nash; this was Delphi eighth goal of the season. Texas soon got back on level terms when NHL veteran Toby Peterson tied the game five minutes before the end of the period with Taylor Vause providing the assist.

Charlotte caused much of their own downfall giving penalties away that put them under pressure. Stars Alex Chiasson got the game winner in the second period when Charlotte had survived one penalty situation when Riley Nash went to the box. Immediately they received another penalty for holding by Jeremy Welsh that was when the Stars took advantage and went ahead.

Cody Eakin, put the icing on the cake for Texas when he scored goal number three for the home team. The Checkers battled hard in the third period out shooting the Stars 13 to 6 all to no avail. Dan Ellis in the Checkers goal made 28 saves and was unlucky when he made a tremendous effort to keep out Eakin, Texas leading scorer on the season.

Charlotte now travel to San Antonio for tonight’s game.
