Charlotte makes it five in a row in Houston

HOUSTON, Texas – Riley Nash scored in overtime to give the Checkers a 2-1 victory over Houston. With just over half a minute to go Nash scored his seventh goal of the season hitting a beauty passed Aeros goalie Matt Hackett.
Zac Dalphe had put Charlotte ahead in the first period with his 13th goal of the season; he was assisted by Justin Shugg. Early in the second period Houston tied the game when Kris Foucault drove the puck passed John Muse in the Charlotte goal. Muse, who made 25 saves, had an excellent game, he had been recalled from the Florida Everblades on Saturday and he soon settled in making some important saves especially in the first period.
Four other Everblade players were recalled to Charlotte as the team had lost six players to the NHL and four through injury. The win was especially satisfying as the team had traveled by bus from Oklahoma which took seven hours. They arrived in Houston at 5.00AM on Sunday morning.
This was Charlotte’s fifth win in five games, tying a franchise record. Their point streak was extended to six games, the third time this has happened this season. Charlotte is now 4-0-1 against the Aeros this season; they have a nine point lead over Houston in the Southern Division.
At the end of the second period as the teams were leaving the ice Checkers Captain Brett Sutter got into a fight with Houston’s Paul Mara. Mara received a game misconduct for leaving the bench and getting involved in the scrap.
Charlotte now returns to the Time Warner Cable Arena where they face Grand Rapids on Wednesday and Thursday and the Norfolk Admirals on Sunday. Eddie.Mitchell@proHockeyNews.com Follow us on Twitter @prohockeynews
