Charlotte loses final game of extended road trip

MILWAUKEE, Wisc – Nine consecutive road games takes its toll. The Checkers fell short on Wednesday night in Milwaukee going down 5-4. The game itself was a back and forth affair with neither team able to put much daylight between themselves and the opposition.
 
The loss drops Charlotte to a 6-2-1 overall record, they retain the best points total in the AHL.
 
Six minutes into the first period Jarad Staal scored on a breakaway then the Admirals replied two minutes later through Chris Mueller. Milwaukee went ahead three minutes after Mueller’s goal when Patrick Cehlin scored. At the end of the first period Drayson Bowman tied the game at 2-2. The game continued to swing both ways in the second period with Kevin Henderson for Milwaukee and then Brett Sutter for Charlotte adding to the score.
 
Sutter, had scored his first career hat trick for the Checkers on Sunday, tonight he had to be content with just one goal.
 
In the third period, Austin Watson, a first-round pick for the Nashville Predators tipped in a shot before Justin Faulk tied the game for Charlotte at 4-4. Admiral’s Daniel Bang put them back on top when he rammed home a pass from Juuso Puustunen halfway through the period.
 
The Checkers continued to fight back but they ran out of time.
 
The AHL’s player of the week Checkers goalie Dan Ellis made 25 saves and Drayson Bowman extended his record goal-scoring streak to seven games. Drayson continues to lead the AHL with eight goals on the season.
 
The Checkers return home on Sunday, November 4th when the face the Chicago Wolves at 3pm.
