Central Hockey League Mourns Passing of Jason Baird

CHL_20100601162426_320_240GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Central Hockey League (CHL) is mourning the death of former player Jason Baird who passed away on Friday in Corpus Christi, Texas.  He was 33 years old.

Baird played in the CHL with the Corpus Christi Ice Rays, Indianapolis Ice and Youngstown SteelHounds from 2002 through 2008 when his hockey career came to an end after a lawnmower accident burned a large portion of his body.

“Our deepest condolences and hearts go out to Jason’s family and friends,” said CHL Commissioner Steve Ryan.

The two-time CHL All-Star finished his playing career with 332 points (114-218=332) in 308 games and in 29 playoff games he posted 10 goals with 14 assists.

A native of Cayuga, Ontario, Baird played all but 75 of his pro games in the CHL and prior to turning pro played in the Ontario Hockey League with the Erie Otters.
