CEDAR PARK , Texas – This Friday, September 25, 2009, the dream of having an all events center in Cedar Park, Texas (a suburb of Austin) becomes reality. Cedar Park Center and the City of Cedar Park proudly announced festivities celebrating the Center’s grand opening.
The commemoration begins with a ceremonial ribbon cutting at 1:00 p.m. inside the main lobby of Cedar Park Center. The Hicks family, Cedar Park Center staff and the City of Cedar Park Mayor Bob Lemon, Council Members and staff will be in attendance for the official opening of the building.
The ceremony will be followed by the building’s historic event. Country Music Superstar and Texas Legend, George Strait and special guest Lee Ann Womack, will open the building starting at 8:00 p.m.
“Friday, September 25th, 2009 will be the result of hard work from many individuals throughout the past year,” Cedar Park Center General Manager Rick McLaughlin said.
In addition to George Strait’s grand-opening concert, Cedar Park Center will be the home of the region’s newest professional hockey team, the Texas Stars, the primary affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars. The two teams will play an historic exhibition game next week, when the NHL makes its first appearance in Central Texas. “The Bud Light Battle of the Stars” will take place at Cedar Park Center on Wednesday, September 30th at 7:00 p.m. The Texas Stars home opener is scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. against the San Antonio Rampage.
The Texas Stars will also play two other home exhibition games on Sunday, September 27th at 3pm against the San antonio Rampage and Monday, September 28th at 7pm against the Houston Aeros.
Cedar Park Center has also announced upcoming performances by Wilco with Liam Finn on October 8th, Kelly Clarkson on November 2nd, and Walking with Dinosaurs “The Arena Spectacular” from November 18th -22nd.
The team’s first ever training camp starts on Monday, September 21st with physicals at 5:00 pm at Cedar Park Center. Texas will hit the ice for the first time in team history on Tuesday, September 22nd at 10:30 am. The Stars will practice at Cedar Park Center through the morning of Thursday, September 24th. All practices at Cedar Park Center will be closed to the public due to the final stages of construction.
On the 24th, Texas will travel to San Antonio for a preseason game with the San Antonio Rampage at 7:30 pm at the Northwoods Ice Center.
Season Tickets holders will get their first look at the Cedar Park Center on Saturday, September 26th when they pick up their tickets. Anyone interested in seeing the Center or purchasing tickets is welcome.
