CCHA weekly review







PAPILLION, NEBRASKA – After a week of non-conference play consisting mostly of tournaments, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) began some conference play this weekend with a total of two conference series and five non-conference series. While most schools saw action this weekend, some schools took the weekend off prior to starting conference play and some played a single game against a non-conference opponent. Schedule Results: October 23, 2009 Lake Superior St. 3, Ohio St. Miami 2, Michigan St. 1 Providence 8, Bowling Green 2 Ferris State 5, Robert Morris 4 (OT) Western Michigan 2, Alabama-Huntsville 1 Bemidji St 3, Northern Michigan 3 (OT) Boston College 3, Notre Dame 2 October 24, 2009 Ohio St 4, Lake Superior St. 3 Michigan St. 3, Miami 2 (OT) Ferris State 4, Robert Morris 1 Boston University 3, Michigan 2 Providence 3, Bowling Green 1 Western Michigan 2, Alabama-Huntsville 1 Bemidji St. 5, Northern Michigan 1 Upcoming Series: Ferris State at Alaska Michigan at Lake Superior State Western Michigan at Michigan State Bowling Green at Nebraska-Omaha Miami at Northern Michigan Ohio State at Notre Dame League News: Both conference series resulted in a split this weekend as Ohio State would split their at Lake Superior State and Michigan State would split with national championship finalist Miami in Oxford, Ohio. The remaining conference members will start a full conference schedule this coming Halloween weekend throughout the CCHA. Ohio State at Lake Superior State In a pair of one goal victories, this hard fought series allowed both teams an exciting beginning to their regular conference season. Ohio State scored on both evenings 37 seconds into the second period and Lake Superior State would be flawless on their power plays going two for two in part to Chad Nehring. Michigan State at Miami Miami would limit the Spartans to a mere 19 shots on goals each night as they would split their opening home series. Michigan State would need overtime to defeat the host RedHawks with the goal being scored by State’s Andrew Rowe.
