ISERLOHN, GERMANY – The top players of the past two seasons are gone. Bobby Wren got a better offer from the ERC Ingolstadt and Brad Tapper had to end his carreers due to health reasons. Many experts doubt that the Roosters will be able to reach the play-offs again this year. Replacing the experienced Norm Maracle in Goal with two very young german goalies seems to be a little risky for them, but they are Germany´s top goalie talents, so maybe this experiment can work.
But who will be able to take the role of last year’s Top scorer Bob Wren?
Brian Swanson seems not to be the type of player who can fill this gap so the hopes of fans and officials lay on Denmark’s super talent, Mads Christensen. Christensen is only 22 years old but already has 5 appearances in the world cup and over 100 games in Denmark’s National Team. He could be the one who can fill this gap. In Pre Season games he has showed that he is an extremely skilled player with enormous potential, and in the first two games of the season he has already scored 3 times and leads in the DEL scoring statistics with 5 points. The two Sparre brothers have also stood out so far, but seem to have some problems with discipline. So may be the 2 new players, and best offensive players in the DEL in the past 2 years Robert Hock and Michael Wolf can lead Iserlohn to play offs again.
The start was very promising but one of the biggest problems could be the small roster of the team. With a few injuries, they wont be able to play at a high level as the young backup players don’t have the quality so far, but if they can avoid serious injuries they may be able to reach the play offs again. But everything must work perfectly. Contact: mark.kaltner@prohockeynews.com
