Calgary, Windsor, and Drummondville advance

READING, PA – The Memorial Cup championship picture will become clearer in the next couple of weeks, but in the mean time, each of the three major junior leagues in the CHL are beginning to settle who will play in their respective league championship series. Championship Series for the first time in 20 years when Eric Wellwood scored in overtime to lift the Spitfires to a 4-3 win over the London Knights in Game 5 of the Rogers OHL Western Conference finals. All five games of the Windsor/London series went into overtime. Andrew Engelage made 41 saves for Windsor and Trevor Cann made 50 saves in the loss. The Spitfires won the series 4-1 and will now play the winner of the the Eastern Conference championship between the Brampton Battalion and Belleville Bulls. The Battalion lead the Bulls 3-1 and can wrap up their series with a win tonight in Belleville. In the WHL, the Calgary Hitmen advanced to the WHL championship series with a four game sweep of the Brandon Wheat Kings. Calgary outscored Brandon 24-14 in the series. In the other conference finals, the Vancouver Giants hold a 2-1 series lead over the Kelowna Rockets. Kelowna won Game 1, while Vancouver took Games 2 and 3 over the Rockets. In the QMJHL, the Drummondville Voltigeurs continue to roll along by sweeping all three playoff series they have been involved in and will now wait to face either the winner of the Quebec/Shawinigan series.
