Bulldogs take 3-2 affair from Stars

HAMILTON, ONTARIO – The Stars were defeated by Hamilton 3-2 in front of 3,056 fans on Saturday afternoon at Copps Coliseum. Forwards Andrew Conboy and Hunter Bishop each tallied a goal in the last five minutes of regulation to lift the Bulldogs over the Stars. Hamilton goalie Drew MacIntyre (15-7-2) stopped 36 Texas shots to hold on for the win. Stars center Travis Morin scored both goals, as the team’s winless streak slipped to three games (0-2-0-1). Texas goalie Richard Bachman (22-15-5) made 30 saves for the loss, as his club fell to 16-13-1-3 on the road this season.
 
The teams traded goals in the first period, with Hamilton opening the scoring at 13:16. Forward Ian Schultz put in a rebound off an Alexander Avtsin shot. Schultz first goal of the season was also assisted by Hunter Bishop. Texas countered 1:38 later at 14:54. Center Travis Morin put in a rebound off a Greg Rallo shot. Right wing Sean Backman also got an assist on Morin’s 14th goal of the season. It marked his first tally since returning to the lineup after missing 14 games with an injury.
 
After a scoreless second period, the scoring opened up late in the third period. Hamilton pushed in front at 15:06 after Andrew Conboy found a loose puck in the Texas crease for his 10th goal of the year and a 2-1 Hamilton lead. Danny Masse and Gabriel Dumont each had an assist on the goal with 4:54 remaining. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 3-1 at 18:17 of the third period. Aaron Palushaj found Hunter Bishop in the high slot for the score. Hamilton defenseman Frederic St. Denis added an assist on Bishop’s fifth goal of the season with 1:43 left in regulation. The Stars trimmed the Hamilton lead to 3-2 at 19:55 with a power-play goal by Travis Morin. His second of the night and 15th goal of the season was set up by Maxime Fortunus and Raymond Sawada for the 3-2 final.
