Bulldogs are not worried anymore

HAMILTON, Ont–The Hamilton Bulldogs won’t have to worry about Mike Glumac playing so well against them any more. The Montreal Canadiens signed the 28-year-old right-winger to a one-year deal and in all likelihood he will end up with the Bulldogs this season. Glumac has spent the past four seasons in the St. Louis Blues organization including most of the last two years with their AHL farm team, the Peoria Rivermen. In four games against the Bulldogs over the past two years, he had four goals and an assist. “I was lucky a few times, I guess,” Glumac says modestly. Last year in Peoria, Glumac scored 21 goals, added 28 assists and had 99 minutes in penalties in 75 games. He also had four games up with St. Louis, in which he was pointless. Naturally, Glumac is hoping that he can crack the Habs roster this season but the Niagara Falls resident knows he’ll be close to home if he ends up in the Steel City.

“Everyone’s main goal coming out of training camp is to make the (NHL) team, and that’s … what I’m focussed on,” he says. “If that doesn’t happen, Hamilton is close to a lot of family and friends and that’s always a good thing.” After five years in the St. Louis organization, Glumac says was looking to start over. “They (Blues) treated me well but I was looking for a fresh start and hopefully I can play well at Montreal’s training camp,” he said. “It will be a new experience for me coming to a new organization. I’ve only been with one organization my whole career so it’s going to be a pretty exciting step.” At 6-foot-2, 201 pounds, Glumac has size to go with some scoring ability. “I play my best when I’m out there finishing my checks and playing physical,” he says. “A lot of times that gets me in the game and puts my in position to be able to score goals … so I think I can do a little of both. It just depends on what situation they want to put me in.” In 323 career AHL games with Cleveland, Worcester and Peoria, Glumac scored 113 goals and added 131 assists. He’s played 40 NHL games with the Blues with seven goals and six assists. Contact the author at: andruw.bourgeois@prohockeynews.com
