Boucher beats back the Devils

NEWARK, NJ – Brian Boucher made 23 saves and received goals from Mike Richards and Chris Pronger in the second period to take Game One, along with home ice advantage, from the New Jersey Devils in a 2-1 victory. Considered by many to be the teams third string goaltender before the playoffs started, Boucher is performing like a starter in net. The Flyers have now taken six of their seven meetings with the Devils this season.
Pronger picked up a rebound in front of the Devils net and knocked it home for the first goal of the game. Ian Laperriere came down the right wing and spun around to make a nice backhanded pass cross ice to Richards who blasted a shot past Martin Brodeur high for the 2-0 lead.
Boucher made some terrific saves to keep the Devils in check and looked like he was going to get the shutout but Travis Zajac’s blast from the point made its way past a maze of players to get the Devils within one. That would be as close as the Devs would get as the Flyers took Game One.
Game Two is Friday night in Newark.
